New HVAC Learning Lab at CCIC: Thanks to community bond support and a major partnership with HVAC industry leader Carrier, the Cherry Creek Innovation Campus (CCIC) has officially launched a state-of-the-art Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) pathway. Students will learn on authentic, commercial-grade equipment to prepare for high-demand, high-paying trade careers right out of high school.
New Director of Athletics & Activities: Longtime educator and former Eaglecrest High School leader Tanya Bond has stepped into her new role as the Director of Athletics and Activities for Cherry Creek Schools, taking over from Larry Bull who retired after leading the department for 15 years.
National Health & Wellness Recognition: Twelve Cherry Creek schools were officially named among America's Healthiest Schools this month—doubling the district's total from last year—recognizing excellence in physical activity, nutrition, and mental health support.
First-Week Campus Milestones: The district proudly welcomed over 300 new educators across campus classrooms this August to support the growing student population.
🏫 Aurora Public Schools (APS) News
Escuela Bilingüe Betty Benavidez Opens: APS has officially launched its first Spanish/English dual-language magnet school! Located at the former Sixth Avenue Elementary site, the school is currently serving preschool through first grade, with plans to add a grade each year until it reaches fifth grade. The school honors the legacy of Betty Benavidez, Colorado's first Latina state lawmaker.
Horizon Uptown & Coal Creek P-8 Progress: Construction continues on schedule for the district's new P-8 campus, Coal Creek P-8, which will serve the rapidly expanding Horizon Uptown area along E-470 thanks to voter-approved bond funding.

Tonight’s Hearing Details: The city’s Historic Preservation Commission is convening virtually tonight, Tuesday, August 25, at 6:30 PM to collect public testimony regarding the formal request to rename Aurora Central Library (14949 E. Alameda Pkwy) as the Edna Wilson-Mosley Central Library.
Legacy of Service:
Co-founded the Women's Bank in 1978 and dedicated four decades to civil rights, affordable housing, and educational access alongside her husband, Tuskegee Airman Lt. Col. John Mosley.
Served 12 years on the Aurora City Council (1991–2003) as the city's first African American Councilmember.

🔹Overnight E-470 Resurfacing & Colfax Corridor Work Drive Mid-Week Detours
E-470 Resurfacing Project (Nightly, Aug 24–27):
Alternating single and double-lane closures remain active nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:30 AM between Exit 10 (Smoky Hill Rd) and Exit 19 (Colfax Ave / I-70).
Drivers heading to Denver International Airport (DEN) during late-night or early-morning hours should plan for 10–15 minute delays.
East Colfax Avenue Maintenance:
Concrete repairs and utility work between Chambers Road and Sable Boulevard continue to cause single-lane reductions daily from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Quincy Avenue Recovery:
Following last weekend's full intersection closure at Carson Road, Quincy Avenue travel lanes have reopened, though final utility striping will cause minor rolling delays through Wednesday.
